Servings: 12 pastries
Ingredients:
2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
3 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
3 tbsp butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water)
1 egg (for egg wash)
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Preheat Oven: Set to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cook Apples: In a pan over medium heat, melt butter and add apple slices, both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples soften. Stir in cornstarch mixture and cook for 1 more minute until thickened. Let cool.
- Prepare Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry slightly and cut into 12 circles or squares.
- Fill and Shape: Place a spoonful of apple filling on one half of each pastry piece. Fold over and lightly press edges together. Optionally, crimp edges with a fork.
- Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush over the tops of the pastries for a golden finish.
- Bake: Place on a baking sheet and bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool and Dust: Let pastries cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
